Used Truck Cap - FAQ
Will it Fit? TRUCK BED SIZES
Pickup truck beds generally come in three primary sizes: short beds (around 5.5 feet), standard beds (around 6.5 feet), and long beds (around 8 feet). However, exact measurements vary depending on whether the truck is a midsize, full-size, or heavy-duty model
| Truck'n America Truck Bed "Code" | Bed Classification | Approximate Length | Common Truck Examples |
| XB or Extra Short | Compact / Midsize Short | ~ 5'0" | Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, Frontier * Usually has a Crew Cab / 4 Door Cab Configuration |
| SB or Short Bed | Compact / Midsize Long | ~ 6'0" | Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, Canyon, Frontier |
| XB or Extra Short Bed | Full Size "Extra" Short Bed | ~ 5'5" to 5'8" | F-150 SuperCrew, Ram 1500 Crew Cab, Silverado Crew Cab |
| SB or Short Bed | Full Size Short Bed / Standard Bed | ~ 6'5" | F-150 Extra Cab, SuperCrew, Ram 1500 Crew Cab, Quad Cab, Silverado Crew Cab, Extended Cab |
| LB or Long Bed | Full Size Long Bed | ~ 8'0" | F-150, Super Duty, Ram, Silverado HD |
- Short Bed (5 feet): Measures roughly 5 feet to 5 feet, 2 inches. This is the standard offering on most crew cab midsize trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger.
- Long Bed (6 feet): Measures roughly 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches. This provides extra utility and is typically paired with smaller cabs or extended wheelbases.
- Short Bed (5.5-foot box): Measures roughly 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches. This is the most common choice for families and daily drivers. It is almost always paired with a large, four-door crew cab.
- Standard Bed (6.5-foot box): Measures roughly 6 feet, 4 inches to 6 feet, 7 inches. This is considered the most versatile "middle-ground" size. It is often paired with regular cabs or extended/double cabs.
- Long Bed (8-foot box): Measures roughly 8 feet to 8 feet, 2 inches. This is the ultimate "work truck" configuration. It can fit standard 4x8 sheets of plywood flat with the tailgate closed. It is usually only available on regular cabs or heavy-duty configurations.

Will it Fit? "Will that Chevy Cap fit my Ford Truck?"
Short Answer: NO
In the mid to late 1990's Truck Manufactures began to build trucks with plastic bed caps built in, thus almost all truck cap manufactures began to build their caps to "WRAP OVER" the bed rail to cover the plastic bed cap for a more custom look.
Since then, no caps are deemed "Universal". Some are close, but none fit perfectly and may damage your truck's bed rail or tailgate.
To complication things even more, Truck Cabs are not the same. Different angles and shapes make it almost impossible as well.
IF you are looking for a "Universal" Fit - Try an Aluminum Truck cap or a cap that does not WRAP OVER.
Do you Ship Used Truck Caps?
Answer: NO
Simply, it is too expensive to ship a truck cap.
LTL Shipping quotes range from $1800 - $2200 - not including palletizing the cap itself - approx $250 - 350 additional. In addition - most full size caps are too large for LTL Shipping.

Why is it so hard to find a Used Cap to fit my Truck?
1734
Some Quick Facts;
1. 8 - Pick Up Truck Manufacturers - As you are aware there are many Truck Manfuacturers. 8 +/- Ex: Ford, Chevrolet/GMC, Ram, Toyota, Tacoma, Nissan, Honda, Jeep
2. 8 x 2 = 16 - For simplicity, let's say each Truck Manufacturer has 2 Different Truck Models - Some have more) Ex: Ford - F-150, SuperDuty, Ranger, Maverick - 8 Manufacturers X 2 Truck Models = 16 Caps Total Needed to Stock
3. (8 x 2) x 3 = 48 - Each Truck Model has 3 +/- different truck bed sizes - to keep it simple - Ex: Ford F-150, Siverado/Seirra, Ram and Tundra have a Short Bed, Standard Bed and a Long Bed - 8 Manufacturers X 2 Truck Models x 3 - 48 Caps Total Needed to Stock
4. ((8 x 2) x 3)) = 144 - Next we need to add the 2 - 3 different Cab Configurations - 3 Cab Types X 48 = 144 units needed to Stock
5. ((8 x 2) x 3)) x 4 = 578 - Now finally add color into the formula. For simplicty - let's just say, white, black, silver and red (we know the all have way more than this re: colors) 144 X 4 Colors = that make 578 Truck Caps needed to Stock.
6. (((8 x 2) x 3)) x 4) x 3 = 1734 - Generally there are 3 different base caps - Cab High, Mid-Rise and High-Rise
7. now add the different Window Congiurations ....
